Aberdeen City Council has made the above-named order in terms of its powers under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984

THE ABERDEEN CITY COUNCIL (SCHOOLHILL / UPPERKIRKGATE, ABERDEEN) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT) ORDER 2024

Aberdeen City Council has made the above-named order in terms of its powers under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

The effect of the order, which will come into operation from 00:01 on 29 April 2024, for a period up to 18 months, modifies the current traffic management arrangements on Schoolhill / Upperkirkgate, between the junctions with Back Wynd and Flourmill Lane. Namely, the current prohibition of motor vehicles (Pedestrian and Cycle Zone) will have an exemption applied to its operation that permits local buses to use the route. The exemption for motor vehicles to enter the zone between the hours of 4.30pm and 11am, for the purpose of loading goods or burden, will also remain.

Of note, the eastbound one-way restriction, on the same roads, between the junctions with Belmont Street and Flourmill Lane, currently provided for by an experimental Order, will be suspended for the duration of this temporary Order.

The measures are to facilitate local bus services by providing an alternative route option while significant roadworks take place on Union Street to upgrade the streetscape.
