THE SCOTTISH BORDERS COUNCIL

(MELROSE SEVENS)

(TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2024

The Scottish Borders Council are making the above Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended and with the consent of Scottish Ministers under Sections 16A(6) and 16B(1)(b) of the said Act. The Order, which has a maximum duration of eighteen days, will come into force at 08:00 Monday 1 April 2024 and is expected to remain in effect until 18:00 on Thursday 18 April 2024. The Order is required to allow the 2024 Melrose Sevens to be held.

One Way Orders

One Way Orders will be enacted on the following roads from 04:00 on Saturday 13 April to 01:00 on Sunday 14 April 2024:-

(a)  Annay Road – a one way order in an easterly direction will be in force from the junction of St Mary’s Road, Melrose to the junction with Dean Road, Newstead.

(b)  High Cross Avenue/Abbotsford Road – a one way order in a westerly direction will be in force from the junction with Waverley Road, Melrose to the junction        with Chiefswood Road, Darnick.

(c)  Waverley Road – a one way order in an easterly direction will be in force from a point 600 metres east of its junction with Abbotsford Road, Darnick to High            Cross Avenue, Melrose.

Speed Restriction

A 30mph speed limit will be in force from 06:00 on Saturday 13 April 2024 to 01:00 on Sunday 14 April 2024 on the A6091 as follows:

  1. from a point 500 metres east of its junction with the B6374 High Road to a point 500 metres west of the same junction; and

  2. from a point 500 metres east of its junction with the B6361 Newstead Road to a point 500 metres west of the same junction.

Temporary Taxi Rank

A temporary taxi rank will be in place on High Street, Melrose from Buccleuch Street eastwards for 65 metres from 18:00 on Thursday 11 April 2024 to 02:00 on Sunday 14 April 2024.

No Waiting and Road/Footpath Closures

When the Order comes into effect no person shall:

  1. permit any vehicle to wait or to be parked along those lengths of road as detailed in Schedule I below; and

  2. drive or cause or permit to be driven any vehicle along the routes as detailed in Schedule II below. Pedestrian restrictions detailed at Paragraph 3 of Schedule II will also apply; and

  3. walk, cycle or wheel along the Triangle Footpath as detailed at Paragraph 5 of Schedule II below.
